On Thursday the 18th of March the results of the @neurIST European project for optimization and the treatment of brain aneurysms was presented as part of the celebration of 'The World of IT Health', held in Barcelona from the 15th to the 18th of March. @neurIST has developed and united different technologies with the aim of optimizing workflow in medical treatment of patients with brain aneurysms, focusing on improving the treatment of affected and resource optimization. In the future it is intended to implement the system developed by @neurIST on other diseases.

Researchers from the Institut Municipal d’Investigació Mèdica (IMIM-Hospital del Mar) have shown the relationship between oxidative cellular stress and loss of muscle mass that occurs at the final stage of some diseases, such as cancer. According to their final hypothesis, oxidative stress increases the susceptibility of degradation of proteins. It is the first time we have conducted a comparative experimental study between different muscles of the limbs and myocardium in animals with cachexia cancer.

This morning the official visit of Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva took place. From early in the morning until the end of the visit there has been large movement of people in the building because of a large deployment of security devices that usually accompany such acts. Cavaco Silva has arrived accompanied by a delegation of 25 Portuguese and Catalan officials, amongst were the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, José Montilla and the ambassador of Portugal in Spain, Alvaro de Mendouza.

Mr. Cavaco Silva, who will also be present in Barcelona at the celebration of the First Iberian Forum (Hispano-Portuguese Energy Forum) at the Lotja de Mar . Mr. Cavaco Silva will be accompanied by the President of the Generalitat, José Montilla .

The chaos of biological data, hitherto scattered in various databases, comes to an end. A new program of free access, BIANA has been made available to scientists and has been put together to facilitate their research. With this new tool, with a Catalan stamp, scientists have at their disposal a wealth of information, they will be able to find new relationships between different biological elements, make predictions and identify new therapeutic targets.
