The i2CAT Foundation, the Consortium of Social Action of Catalonia and the Taula del Tercer Sector Social (an association of non-profit social welfare groups) have created the Foundation Benestic, a new entity that will have as its main objective to make information and communication technology the main engine to drive the process of change in social services.

Today, Monday, May 10, at 19:00, Laura Coll i Planas, MD, will talk about the possibility of preventing dependence as part of the lecture series “Perspectives on Aging” at the Vila de Gràcia Library in Barcelona. The series is organized by Libraries of Barcelona in collaboration with the Institute of Aging of the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

The i2CAT Foundation has presented at the eHealth Week 2010, which took place from 15 to 18 March 2010 in Barcelona, the project results Carers Network, a pilot scheme aimed at preventing progressive social exclusion faced by caregivers of dependents with the creation of a social network between psychologists and caregivers.

A study by the University Carlos III of Madrid has assessed the number affected and the cost of the citizens associated with dependence in Spain. In the results it is estimated that over 900,000 people are eligible to receive public aid and that official figures fall short in relation to their initial forecasts.
