Launched a telemedicine network to reduce blindness in premature babies born in Catalonia

The Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona has launched a pioneering project in Spain which, through a stable network of telemedicine, aims to prevent blindness in premature babies who are at high risk of severe retinopathy. In the past two years, the Hospital has developed a pilot project with the collaboration of five other hospitals in Catalonia, which has helped prevent blindness in more than 90% of treated cases.

A pilot study reduced readmissions by 68% of patients with heart failure

Preliminary results of a study carried out by professionals of the Cardiology Service of the University Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, in collaboration with Philips Healthcare, show that the application of telemedicine into the everyday life of people with chronic heart failure decreases by nearly 70% the time that these patients need to be hospitalized. Through an interactive platform based on the transmission of broadband data between home and hospital patients, researchers have found not only the reduction of income and therefore improved efficiency but also demonstrate that patients have more quality of life.

The UOC and the University of Guadalajara bring together experts in telemedicine from around the wor

The International Symposium on Telemedicine 2010 is to bring together experts in e-health and telemedicine from around the world in Guadalajara, Mexico, on 11 and 12 February. Its aim is to report on international experiences in which ICTs have played an important role in the development of telemedicine and to debate the possible solutions to the problem of the digital divide that separates countries with different levels of development.

Chasing eHealth

Finding work or a partner through the Internet is no longer something risky, and online business transactions are no longer painful. The network has earned the trust of its users, despite of the existence of interested pressures or jokes that boycott the mesh. But to a world that moves for work, love and health, the time has come to introduce its fortress to the cyber assistance and to telemedicine. In the United States they have understood for a long time now the benefits of e-health. Europe struggles to follow its steps, whilst the United Nations urges the entire planet to change the chip.

Fast and cheap medicine and early detection are coming closer

Electronic and molecular biology lead to a new way of understanding medicine, some refer to it as `early health´. New technology underlies in this revolution that promises to lower costs and, more importantly, more and better cures. Rich and poor countries will be able to benefit from this new concept of health.
