Guidelines for revamping Spain’s healthcare model

Parallel to the profound changes contemporary societies are undergoing, humans are developing new tools that can help them to adapt. Healthcare is not exempt from this trend. In Spain, the aging population and increased life expectancy, among many other factors, are raising a number of challenges that will have to be confronted in order to avoid a collapse of the health system. Identifying the main problems of the current healthcare model and some key reforms to strengthen it were the focus of a round table debate that took place in the medieval chapel of Santa Àgueda, in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, on May 25.

Medical technology provides opportunities for outsourcing

Renovate or die. In times of economic crisis this maxim is more valid than ever – renovate and adapt to pull the shutters down definitely. In the context of the current economic conditions, opening up to medical technology sector, i.e. to the production process of manufacturing devices, medical equipment and hospital technological, could be a good bet to get out of the hole, according to a report presents on May 13 at a conference organized by Biocat which also unveiled a new online tool to help companies turn to the world of medical technology.

Exposició "La premsa mèdica catalana"

Until the 15th of June at the Medical School of Barcelona (COMB) the exhibition "Catalan medical press" can be seen, which opened on Tuesday with a presentation by Dr. Josep Danon, head of the Historical Library Uriach Foundation 1838. The exhibition exposes and explains the history of Catalan medicine in the last centuries through its publications.

Bajo Ebro, high level

One hundred and fifty doctors, a hundred communications and a 'leitmotif': controversies in bioethics converted Tortosa, on the penultimate weekend of February, in the Catalan capital of clinical debate. They were the XXVI Sessions on Medical and Health of the Land of the Ebro and the organizing team (headed by Ismael Roldán and Manel Chanove) have set the scientific listing at the highest notch.
