The UPF and the Casa de Velázquez join forces in training and research

The University of Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and Casa de Velazquez have established a collaborative framework to conduct joint training and research, providing seminars and workshops for PhD students and faculty participation in research projects undertaken by this prestigious scientific and cultural institution. Seminars on archaeology and modern history are the first scheduled activities for the forthcoming year, to be followed by one on literature.

The collaboration between both entities has been made possible by the Rector of the University, with the signing of an agreement, by Josep Joan Moreso, rector of the (UPF) and Jean-Pierre Étienvre, director of the Casa de Velazquez. The signing ceremony was attended by Josep Maria Micó, vice provost for Faculty, Joaquim Albareda, director of the Institut Universitari d'Història Jaume Vicens i Vives, Emilio Suarez, Professor of the Department of Humanities, and Stéphane Michonneau, director of studies for modern and contemporary history at the Casa de Velázquez.

Among the activities under to under the agreement, and for the Department of Humanities and the Institut Universitari d'Història Jaume Vicens i Vives will be responsible for, it should be mentioned should that the UPF will provide the Casa de Velázquez and its members access to the University library collection and use of space for seminars, conferences and other activities.

The agreement, signed for an initial term of four years with the option to renew, envisages the creation of a joint commission, consisting of two representatives from each institution, which will propose the specific terms of the different actions, preparing, if necessary, specific agreements to carry them out, and the resolution of any issues that may arise in their development.

Casa de Velázquez is a French school located in Madrid, which is under the auspices of the France’s Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research. This is a public institution of scientific, cultural and professional characteristics whose mission is to develop activities and research relating to the arts, languages, literatures and societies of the Hispanic and Iberian worlds, Latin American (both the colonial and contemporary periods) and Northern Africa, contributing to the training of artists and faculty, and participating in the development of artistic and scientific exchanges between France and the Iberian countries.
