Ramon Moreno Amich appointed director of the foundation of the CERCA institution

The Foundation of the Institution of Research Centres of Catalonia (CERCA) is a tool to support research centers participated in by the Catalan Government to promote excellence and to generate economies of scale to optimize existing resources.

The new entity, chaired by Councilor Josep Huguet, aims to support the centers currently in the CERCA program and encourage their corporate, institutional and scientific projection so they can increase and consolidate their international leadership positions. Additionally, it will implement policies aimed at these centers and other research organizations.

Established as a foundation, the entity counts on the participation of four departments of the Catalan Generalitat (Innovation, Universities and Business; Health; Agriculture, Food and Rural Activities; and Economy and Finance), as well as members of the scientific community represented in the figure of scientific vice-president of the institution, Joan Rodés Teixidor, and the Catalan Association for Research Entities (ACER).

Dr. Ramon Moreno Amich (Girona, 1958) is a professor of Ecology assigned to the Department of Environmental Sciences and a researcher at the Institute of Aquatic Ecology of the University of Girona, where, between 2002 and 2005, he was first vice-rector and vice-rector of Research. His career has been dedicated to research in the field of limnology (the ecology of inland waters) within the specialty of fish and wetland ecology.
