The Benestic Foundation is established to promote ICT in the social welfare sector

The i2CAT Foundation, the Consortium of Social Action of Catalonia and the Taula del Tercer Sector Social (an association of non-profit social welfare groups) have created the Foundation Benestic, a new entity that will have as its main objective to make information and communication technology the main engine to drive the process of change in social services.

The Benestic Foundation is a response to the growing need for an organization that brings together key players in the ICT sector with those in the field of social services in order to establish common policies, jointly develop innovative projects and strengthen the fabric of the ICT business and social services sectors in Catalonia.

Xavier Peiró, executive director of the i2CAT Foundation, said during the presentation that “there is currently no common usage policies in our country, no standards or recommendations of the ICT sector in the area of social services, but rather each company operates in a vacuum.” He went on explain the new foundation’s goals: “What we aim to do at Benestic is that the different companies and institutions that provide social services can use new technologies in an orderly manner, with a coordinated policy and vision for all of Catalonia.”

The new entity, which will seek through innovation to improve the performance of social welfare policies, improve the efficiency of social services, enhance the creation of innovative projects in this area and help entrepreneurs with new initiatives. The Benestic Foundation will offer businesses and entrepreneurs with an innovative project to improve social services the necessary technology to do so, working alongside them through the different stages of the process (feasibility studies, project development, searching for companies and organizations that want to collaborate, finding sources of funding, the dissemination of results, specializing training, providing counseling, etc.).

“Here at the i2CAT Foundation we believe that the creation of this entity is more than necessary to develop the social services in our country and, as sponsor of the project, i2CAT will provide Benestic and its projects with industry knowledge, recommendations, use of its technology platforms and contacts at the local, national and European level as well as our extensive experience in the use of ICT in the social sector,” said Peiró.

The i2CAT Foundation is a research and innovation center founded in 2003. Its main goal is to achieve universal Internet access for all, promoting an optimal connection from anywhere in the world. To this end, the Foundation makes its research available to society through collaboration between the public administration, companies and research groups from universities and the educational world for the development of innovative projects in the field of new network technologies.

me Gustaría su ayuda, estoy con la idea de crear una fundación para contribuir en la educación de las personas menos favorecidas de mi país, desplazados, estratos 1, que realmente no pueden adquirir educación en tic, por falta de recursos económicos
