Learn about malaria

Sumanas Inc. is the author of this interactive animation that provides a detailed explanation of the life cycle of Plasmodium falciparum, the mosquito species responsible for the spread of malaria.

This interactive animation designed by Sumanas Inc. graphically explains the life cycle of Anopheles, the mosquito species responsible for the spread of malaria. The animation begins with the bite of an infected mosquito carrying Plasmodium sporozoites in its salivary glands. The sporozoites enter the person through the mosquito's saliva. They then migrate to the liver where they multiply rapidly in the liver cells. The cycle starts again when an uninfected female Anopheles bites a person with the disease. Then, the insect becomes the vector for malaria to spread the disease to other humans.
