Observers of the sea

The Institute of Marine Sciences (CSIC) is studying the marine environment and its living organisms, researching the functioning of its ecosystems and the possibility to ensure its protection and recovery. But the ocean is huge, too large to get to know it relying only on the Institute's own work. In order therefore to give voice to other 'researchers', observers, naturalists, marine professionals and lovers of the ocean, the Institute has created the portal 'Observer of the sea'. Thus, the Institute seeks to achieve a more appropriate, current and realistic vision of the oceans.

The portal wants to be the collection point of the observations made by the sea lovers during their activities, whether professional or due to leisure. The aim is to create a database with quality information which is both useful for understanding the marine flora and fauna (distribution, abundance, occurrence of 'rare' or invasive species, etc.), to know what happens in the sea (pollution, weather, etc.).

In addition, the site also contains:

- Information about some of the projects that the ICM is carrying out.

- Videos produced by BIOIMATGE (submerged cameras hundreds of times in the bottom of the sea to get the best pictures).

- The ability to connect with researchers from the ICM to resolve doubts.
