Rethinking the electric car

Today’s electric car will very likely end up being nothing more than a link between vehicles with a combustion engine and those vehicles which in a relatively few years should populate the streets and highways of the world. Although the technology for mass consumption electric cars is not yet available, the efforts are increasing to accelerate the process.

Renewable energies attract Latin America

Latin American, with European support, take a long look at renewable energy

The countries of Latin America and the Caribbean are increasingly interested in developing renewable energy sources and efficient tools for achieving sustainable development and mitigating climate change. This interest was recently made evident in Berlin at preparatory meeting for the upcoming EU-Latin America-Caribbean summit to be held this month in Madrid. Spain, which is currently exercises the European Union presidency, has emphasized the inclusion of research and design policy at the summit. Technological cooperation in renewable energy and energy efficiency will also be one of the issues to be addressed.

They ensure that the modernization of electricity distribution will involve the creation of large numbers of jobs and contribute to economic recovery.

The hidden costs of energy

Electricity generation and motor transportation produce health related damage. These are reflected in the high figure of 120,000 million dollars every year, in the United States. For the first time it is possible to estimate a specific figure to one of the so-called hidden costs associated to energy production and consumption, which are not reflected in market prices.
