Science Festival 2010 in Barcelona’s Parc de la Ciutadella

What would you like to know about biodiversity, robots, the origin of the cosmos, the applications of mathematics or the latest technological developments? You will find these and other topics explained in depth at Barcelona’s Science Festival 2010 on June 12 and 13 in the Parc de la Ciutadella. More than 60 activities, from workshops and demonstrations to virtual games, talks, walks, installations and performances, will try to answer questions such as why a blue laser can pop a yellow balloon but cannot burst a blue one; why particles have mass; what dark matter is; what allows us to see polarized light; or why we do not see green stars.

The subject of biodiversity will be covered with a botanical tour through the park exploring the associated fauna while experts will offer the chance to learn new techniques for the study of the seabed or reflect on the great diversity of the human species. Robots will be discussed to explain how they are developed and programmed and what applications urban robotics can have in addition to viewing a demonstration by the city’s young participants in the RoboCup Junior program. The origins of the universe, matter and antimatter, not to be left out, will be the focus of a dance with live music.

Other highlighted events include the Exhibition of Young Researchers in Barcelona, which puts on display the scientific research of high school students of the city; the traditional Science Library; the Digital Lab, especially devoted to experimentation with new technologies; micro-talks; star gazing and a science film session.

All these activities and events are made possible through the collaboration of numerous institutions, museums, and research centers.

Dates: Saturday, June 12, from 16:00 to 24:00 and Sunday, June 13, from 11:00 h to 15:00 h.

Mis hijas mi marido y yo quedamos encantados con la explicaciones sobre el tema de las matemáticas y sus anécdotas, concluyó con una pregunta que le hicieron a un niño prodígio sobre cuál era la altura de la Torre Eiffel con la ayuda de un barómetro. No sabemos si era EL ENIGMA DE FERMAT o bien MENJANT MANDARINES AMB ISAAC NEWTON, el noi que ho exposaba tenía moltissima facilitat de paraula voldríem saber el seu nom PER FER-LI UN SEGUIMENT. mOLTES GRÀCIES.
