Europe Day Celebration

The European Documentation Center of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) is holding a series of activities to commemorate Europe Day on May 9. Additionally, during the entire month of May, a stand of European Documentation Center will be set up at the Bellaterra and Sabadell Campuses of the UAB.

World Brain Awareness Week 2010

One more year, Barcelona celebrates the World Brain Awareness Week 2010 in its 15th anniversary. Between 15 and 21 March, the Barcelona Science program, along with the Centre for Genomic Regulation, the Barcelona Institute of Education and the collaboration of numerous research centres, organizes a special program for schools and proposals for the general public, adding to this initiative, which emerged from the researchers themselves and which followed in over 72 countries, with the aim of publicizing the efforts being made in the study of human brain to understand its operation.

High school students, particle physicists for a day at the Faculty of Physics

Quarks and leptons, two subatomic particles, will be the stars of the sixth edition of the "Workshop of particle physics" to be held tomorrow, Friday March 5 at the Faculty of Physics at the UB in the framework of the international Hands - on Particle Physics Master classes. About 6000 high school students worldwide will participate in this annual event to disseminate research in particle physics.

Presentation of the exhibition "Come! Experiment physics through the senses"

The UAB School of Science welcomes the exhibition "Come! Experiment physics through the senses" until March 19. This is a pilot project to bring physics to children in their second and third cycle of primary education and develop their scientific curiosity. Next Tuesday, March 2, the professor of the Institute of Science Education (ICE) of the UAB, David Vilalta, and the professor of the Physics Department of the UAB, Anna Sanpera, will present the activity to the media.

The tunnelling of the L9 enters the Palau Robert

The window display of the entrance hall of the Palau Robert in Barcelona, where the exhibition "Networks. A journey through the infrastructures in Catalonia", is exhibited, since 19th February, the spectacular piece that reproduces the front part of the last generation tunnelling that are used for drilling the pathway through which the Line 9 will circulate.

The comic as an educational resource for disseminating minority anaemia

Thanks to an initiative of the Spanish Association for the Fight against Hemoglobinopathies and thalassemias (ALHETA), for the first time it has been published in Spain an educational comic book series aimed specifically at adolescents affected by these diseases, as well as family and health personal and teachers in this environment. The campaign, at national level, has published three comics with three different themes: thalassemia, sickle cell anaemia and transfusion. A total of 25,000 copies, 2,500 of them in Catalan, will be distributed by the network of hospital services, primary care and secondary schools.

Ca n'Oliver village reopens with the workshop "Shall we go hunting?"

After being closed because of work done during the month of December and part of January, the Iberian village Ca n'Oliver is open again for the public and does so with a workshop about hunting that launches the activity program "Let's get to know the Iberian Culture in the Village of Ca n'Oliver" from 2010, prepared together with CRAC and the Cultural Heritage Service, developed throughout the year and with a free monthly activity (except July and August). Like every year, a leaflet has been published to be able to find it in the different information points of the city.

New Ecosafari meeting at the Parc de l'Oreneta

On Saturday 16th of January at 12.00h, a new Ecosafari will take place at the Parc de l'Oreneta of Barcelona. Games, trail searching, learning about what the dichotomous keys are and how to use them in order to become better explorers and even herbal tea tasting is offered. A discovery of the treasure of the biodiversity surrounding us and of which we are all part of.

“¡Cuac!” puppet show

The Fundación Joan Miró organizes the "¡Cuac!" puppet show. This show, which will be held during the weekends of January, presents daily situations of the smallest, with a tender and festive sensibility. The world seen through the children's view at this age is reflected by the two characters that live and explore, letting themselves be guided by their senses and curiosity. Parallel-wise, the necessary bond with the adult is satisfied with the manipulators established link with the puppets defining an environment of confidence.

Jan and the stars

Tomorrow Saturday 19th of December at 12.00h at the mNACTEC, the narrator Albert Estrenge will tell the story "Tots alhora! Per no fer tard" (All at once so as not to be late). Christmas is approaching, the cold comes and Jan, closed in at home, with the streets snowed and the sky covered, carefully listens to many things he didn't know about the sun, the moon and further on; a Christmas tale about the weather, the sun and the moon, ending with the construction of a sundial.

Would you want to learn to be a naturalist in the garden?

On Saturday 19th of December, starting at 11.00 h, the Ecosafari will take place at the Jardín de Aclimatización (Acclimatization Garden), at Montjuïc (Barcelona). Some of the neighbouring plants will be shown as well as some that came to our house a few years ago and some that have always been here. Peculiarities of some of them will be shown as well as the recognition of the ones that aren't so familiar.

Cinesférico y Planetario Esfera

In 1609 Galileo Galilei first pointed to the sky with a telescope. It was the beginning of 400 years of discovery that still continue. On 27 October 2006 the International Astronomical Union (IAU) announced the declaration by UNESCO of 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009). The Cultural Centre Can Fabra also wants to celebrate this year with the “Astronomy cycle”.
