Celebrate World Internet Day with Citilab

Monday, May 17, is World Internet Day. People, institutions, social organizations, research centers, municipalities and anyone who wishes can join the party by participating in various activities. Citilab will also form part of this group.

14 may 2010

Throughout the afternoon there will be an on-line series of conferences about the Internet and related technologies held at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia on its Castelldefels campus. The conferences will start at 16:00 with the intervention of Carlos Gomez Montenegro, professor of the Polytechnic School of Castelldefels, who will give the conference “Internet de las cosas: la revolución que se avecina” (“The Internet of Things: The Coming Revolution”). The founder of InOut TV Eudald Domènech will also speak about one of the most affected areas by the consolidation of the Internet, television, at a conference entitled “El cambio de paradigma en la TV” (“The Paradigm Shift in TV”).

The organizers of the day’s events also wanted to hear the perspectives of representatives of social institutions on how the Internet has changed social and political thinking. To this end, Alfonso Lopez Borgoñoz, president of Amnesty International in Spain, will close the day with the conference “Internet y su impacto en la defensa de los derechos humanos” (“Internet and its impact on the defense of human rights”).

All lectures will be broadcast on-line by the Fundació i2CAT and can be seen live from the Hall C on the first floor of Citilab.
The lectures are free and open to the public.

The Internet has changed our lives

In an attempt to break the stereotype that Internet use is purely generational, the Seniorlab research group will take the opportunity of Internet Day to open a debate about how the Internet is changing our lives and our way of relating with one another.

From various phenomena such as the explosion of images that digital photography has produced to the comparison pf digital social networks and personal relationships, a collective vision of the social impact of technology will be developed.

The debate can be followed live on-line from 16:30 to 18:00 from citilab.tv and those interested can also participate via Twitter with the code '# seniortv'. From Citilab’s digital studio some of the topics discussed on Twitter will be incorporated into the debate, thus demonstrating the flexibility of the new 2.0 communication channels.
