Rivers of medicine

This coming Tuesday, May 4, the Osona Astronomical Society will hold the conference entitled "Rivers of medicines and other emerging products: is there a risk to river communities?" presented by Maria Ricart Viladomat, pre-doctoral research student at the Catalan Water Research Institute (ICRA) and the University of Girona (UdG).

Several studies have recently detected the presence of drugs and pesticides in river systems. The main risk arising from the presence of these contaminants is the loss of biodiversity in the ecosystem. In Catalonia, for example, the Llobregat river is suffering the adverse effects of these substances on communities of invertebrates and algae that inhabit the waterway.

Additionally, on Thursday, May 6, there will be an observation session open to the public starting at 21.00 at the society’s Observatory.

The conference will take place at the Society (c / Father Xifré, 3, 3-1a, Vic) at 20:00, unless otherwise indicated.
