Charles Darwin, portrait of an honest scientist who defied science and religion

“We are living in a sad time! It is easier to disintegrate an atom than a prejudice” says the famous phrase of Albert Einstein. This thought also inspires the pages of the book “Darwin and the monkey”, a volume that reviews myths and facts of the famous naturalist born 200 years ago in Shrewsbury (United Kingdom). The book is signed by Daniel Turbón, Professor of the Department of Animal Biology at the University of Barcelona and Carlos Alberto Marmelada, professor of the International University of Catalonia, and is published by Ediciones Sello.

Charles Darwin is one of the most fascinating scientists of the history of science. Like Galileo Galilee and Copernicus, he posed a scientific, philosophical and religious challenge for human thought when he presented a revolutionary and provocative response about the origin of species and mankind: the great “mystery of mysteries”. It has been 150 years since the publication of The Origin of Species, but the divisions caused by Darwinian thinking are still open. The unknown land this informative book approaches is the territory that still remains to be explored on the many facets of the biography of the famous English scientist.

During his lifetime, Darwin was mystified and manipulated, and the picture given of this English naturalist is often wrong. Darwin and the monkey, approaches the reader to the personal and academic avatars that accompanied his inner journey starting from the formulation of the theory of evolution, which explains the origin and the evolution of living beings from a unitary biological vision. His basic ideas on the origin of mankind, along with the story about how it arose historically and its main characters, what problems they encountered and what scientists are currently studying, are also a main focus of the chapters of this book signed by Turbón and Marmelada.
