Who was Charles Darwin (1809-1882)? An extraordinary genius? The greatest biologist of all times? Is 'The origin of the species' (1859) the most important book in the history of biology? Maybe, but why? Geniuses don't fall from the sky. The history of science tries to understand why and how a scientist finds a new theory; tries to analyze the specific conditions of the findings. We should ask ourselves who where Darwin's teachers, but an historical analysis is more than a list of scientist and thinker's names. If we want to understand the genesis of the evolution theory we have to dive into the specific conditions of the British society of the nineteenth Century. Only then will we understand why the British Empire, the fight against slavery, the post service and the pigeon breeders, amongst many other things, where factors playing a major role in the development of Darwin's new theory about our origin.

The activity will take place in the centre of the Agrupación (C/ del Padre Xifré 3, 3º, 1ª, Vic) at 20.00 h, unless expressly stated otherwise.
