Albert Zink
, molecular anthropologist and director of the
Institute for Mummies and the Icema of Bolzano
(Italy) coordinated the research of the first genetic
study
of kinship between Egyptian mummies. His team composed of Egyptian, German and Italian scientists, analyzed DNA from 16 mummies, most of them belonging to the tomb of the Pharaoh Tutankhamen. The work has resulted in a genealogical tree of the family of the young king and in identifying a possible cause of his death, probably due to a combination of malaria and osteonecrosis. More information.
