Juan Luis Arsuaga (Madrid, 1954) graduated and obtained his PhD in biological sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid. He is also, professor of palaeontology at the same university.

He has always been passionate about the prehistoric era. In fact, since 1982 he is fully involved with the research carried out at the Atapuerca sites. Since 1991 he is co-director of the project together with José María Bermúdez and Eudald Carbonell. As a result from the large studies and findings carried out at Atapuerca, that have helped in a very important way to enrich the scientific knowledge related to prehistory and palaeontology, the team received in 1997 the Prince of Asturias Award for scientific and technical research.

Juan Luis Arsuaga is also a writer. Apart from writing scientific articles, he is a great spreader of science, accomplishing large amounts of articles and books which have even been reedited. Also in 2005, as a result of his research experience, he entered the world of the novels and wrote Al otro lado de la niebla (On the other side of the fog).

Juan Luis Arsuaga travels around the world giving conferences and participating in large international congresses. He has become the great representative of all those Spanish researchers that work endlessly trying to find, day after day, a bit more about our ancestors.
