Socrates E. Papapoulos trained as an internist and endocrinologist at the University of Athens in Greece and Middlesex Hospital in London, U.K. In 1984, he joined the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, where he continues his work on bone mineral metabolism. He is a scientific advisor of the International Osteoporosis Foundation and the European Union Committee for the Prevention of Osteoporosis and the World Health Organization.
Papapoulos has authored over 300 publications on bone metabolism and osteoporosis.
