Preventing the coming collapse of cell phone networks

Europe’s mobile wireless networks could collapse within three years’ time due to the increase of users who have smartphones and are connected to the Internet. Two projects funded by the European Commission, one of which is developed by researchers at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, are already working on technology that will prevent this breakdown.

The first major international study is unable to connect cell phones with brain tumors

While technology enthusiasts have already started the countdown for the new iPhone OS 4.0 and discussing the increase in sales of cell phones with Android in the first quarter of the year in the U.S., the results of the first major international study on the relationship between cell phones and brain tumors have just been published. Much to the scientists’ surprise, the findings are inconclusive, and more research needs to be done.

The new cartography

Internet, satellites and mobile phones, among other technologies have revolutionized the way to understand and map cartography. The maps are no longer static but dynamic and rich in referenced data which volunteer contributors put on the network. One might say that the mapping of the twenty-first century we do together. But the market has continued to grow despite these alarms and the crisis, and, according to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), at the end of this year the world had 5,000 million owners of a mobile line. Progress has left warning voices breathless, since one of the most promising utilities of cell phones is precisely health care.
