Nanodesign based on butterfly wings

Scientists at the University of Cambridge in the U.K. have made a synthetic material with patterns of light and color modeled on the wings of tropical butterflies. Its application could enhance printed materials such as bank notes and credit cards.

Nanotechnology and its applications in medicine

One day, drugs will be able to be administered specifically to diseased cells. To achieve this goal it is necessary to resort to instruments of nanometric scale (a nanometer is a millionth of a millimetre), able to locate the tissues and target cells. The discovery has been published in the journal 'Nature Chemistry'.

A new technique allows placing with high precision a protein in a specific point

A team from the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) has devised a method to place proteins in order in a macroscopic area of several square feet, with an accuracy of 10 nanometres. The method, which has been displayed on the cover of the latest issue of the journal Advanced Materials, is highly reproducible and is of low cost. The innovation could lead to the development of smart drugs, or in the field of information technology, to the production of new systems for storing large amounts of information.
