A variable star home to a giant exoplanet

This week’s forecast calls for meteor showers

Every summer in mid-August the astronomical phenomenon of the Perseid meteor shower, better known as the “Tears of St. Lawrence,” returns to fill the Earth’s night sky. This year the peak nights are August 12 and 13, which, weather permitting, will be ideal for observation because of the absence of the moon.
