Swine flu: New findings

A team of researchers at the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) in Barcelona, Spain, have studied the immune response in patients who required admission to the ICU for severe pneumonia during the acute phase of swine flu. The study's findings indicate that in the most serious cases, the failure of the immune response is unable to prevent the virus from replicating and this causes a vicious cycle that worsens the patient’s clinical status to a critical situation.
