A breakthrough to capture ultra-weak magnetic signals

The human heart and brain produce ultra-weak magnetic signals, and researchers at the Institute of Photonic Sciences near Barcelona have overcome a limit previously considered insurmountable and managed to detect these signals. Plastics that hang on to PVCs

Thanks to a chemical modification to phthalates used in the fabrication of industrial plastics, researchers at Spain’s Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) have succeeded in permanently attaching PVC molecules to plastics so that they are not released into the surrounding environment.

How do materials break?

A researcher from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) has discovered a new mathematical model that describes, for the first time ever, the fracture process of materials such as glass, polymers, concrete, ceramics, metals, rocks and even some geological fractures. The research is published in the journal 'Nature'.
